DESIGN STRATEGIES

Oslo Architecture Triennalle

How to transform an existing empty building into a pumping heart of creativity and dialogue regarding our human habitats?

Oslo Architecture Triennalle ver. 2022 invited us to collaborate with their in-house team of exhibition planners to transform the empty Old Munch Museum - yes, the one where Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” was hanging until recently! - into the “Neighborhood Lab”.

The Neighborhood Lab is a space intended to bring the creative forces of the Nordics - and beyond- together into a dialogue regarding how to build better neighborhoods and better cities. During the Triennalle in Sept- Oct 2022, the Lab hosted a series of talks, pop-up events, activities for diverse user groups, and of course, cool parties. During the course of the Lab, visitors had the chance to explore three parallel exhibitions of fascinating content : the “Mission Neighborhood” exhibition containing Nordic and European neighborhood projects in five themes ; the “Oslo in the Making” pop-up exhibition in the former Munch Hall, showcasing some of Oslo’s exciting upcoming projects; and finally, an exhibition of some of Peter Cook’s most radical works, where the prolific creator imagines alternative urban scenarios in his unique pop-intellectual style.

Our work started already at early strategic level- how to turn common narratives out of radically different approaches? How to create an intertwining flow of people and information ? And how to make the whole experience enjoyable, social and ”juicy”, despite the usual limitations of space, budget and time? We then proceeded along with our OAT partners in identifying spatial concepts and ways to physically manifest them.

The exhibition is shortlisted as one of the 3 candidates for Best Exhibition in Norway 2022. Good luck OAT!
