Bridge over Neris, Vilnius
A bridge is not necessarily merely a line between two points; crossing can be an emotional experience of transcending from one situation to the next. In this study, we propose a bicycle & pedestrian bridge curving its way over Vilnius’ Neris river in order to create alternate vistas of the adjacent park, but also as a means to create a longer, therefore smoother ascent of 13 m from one shore to the opposite. Over the water, the two circulation lanes gradually split in order to create a resting social space, an impromptu performance venue or simply a possibility to enjoy the sun and the view with others. Structurally, a 2m. hollow steel beam is bridging elliptically-shaped concrete pillars.
