There are 183 water towers In Denmark today. Most of them stand as relics of the past, as they have become obsolete of their previous function . If they are not monuments, what are they ? What can they do for us and what can we do for them?
For Tårnby water tower, we propose a dual strategy of “cake” and “topping”: the body of the tower is occupied by suspended 30 m2 apartments (for students ,business travelers etc) while the tank at the top is transformed into public bath/ spa with a 360 degree view. The two different programs ensure financial viability with a level of excitement that reflects the structure’s history.
