DESIGN STRATEGIES
How does one design for theatricality, richness of impressions and diversity of atmospheres within a given space? This was the task that landed a couple of years back on our desk - and we took it with enthusiasm , as it is an architect's dream to be given this kind of freedom for expression.
The 160 m2 apartment at the foot of the Acropolis in Athens needed a total overhaul, to serve the needs of an international couple who decided to move in Athens amidst the covid pandemic. They wanted to bring with them all their experiences from travelling and living abroad.
Through an intensive series of workshops and engaging dialogue, we arrived at a combination of cuban, morrocan, mediterranean and scandinavian influences with a "smoked" feelin, perhaps easier found at the movies than in real life. Indeed, the cinematographic experience - transitioning from one environment to the next through a continuous panning of the body - was one of our main sources of inspiration , mostly through the work of Peter Greenaway.
The project won the Big See Award at the Interior Residential category in 2024.
